Bertrand de Broc welcomes you around the world!
The start of the next “Vendée Globe” will be on the 10th of November 2012. Following his participation in the event in 1992 and 1996, Bertrand de Broc, skipper for 25 years, aims to be once again on the starting line in 2012. To raise finance and support for the 2012 campaign he is launching «Your name around the world 2» offering up to 30 000 people the chance to “sail” together with him on this tremendous adventure.
Once again 16 years later: «Your name around the world 2»
Famous for carrying out a surgical suture of his own tongue whilst at sea during the Vendée Globe ‘92, before a keel problem forced him out of the race, the 52 year old sailor is launching once again the operation which helped him to enter the Vendée Globe in 1996.
This original and innovative operation, named «Your name around the world» offers individuals the opportunity to have their name written on the hull of Bertrand de Broc’s boat and participate together with him around the world! In 1996 the operation was successfully supported by 6 000 individuals and a hundred organizations. Unfortunately, Bertrand did not finish the race due to a capsize only a few miles from the finish line.
Having been forced to retire from the race twice Bertrand cannot rest with failure and for that reason, 16 years later he has decided to enter and to launch «Your name around the world 2».
30 000 names worth 50 euros
Individuals can become sponsors with a 50 Euros « investment », and companies for 1 000 Euros, Bertrand de Broc aims to reach the 1 500 000 € budget required to buy a boat and enter his “third and last” Vendée Globe.
To achieve this goal the sailor needs to attract 30 000 people who will support him in the race around the world with their name or message (up to 25 digits) on the hull of the 60 footer.
