nke on the VOR village in Lorient

nke has decided to be present on the VOR village in Lorient, 12 km away from their premises!

On the Volvo Ocean Race nke has supplied several ultrasonic speed systems, specifically designed to increase sensitivity. This is the first time VOR boats have used these. Adding other sensors such as the high-end wind sensor –the highest data rate available on the market- would bring further improvements in the numbers displayed on offshore boats such as these.

nke marine electronics has been developing electronic systems for sailboats for more than 20 years. Wind sensors, speed sensors, load sensors and sophisticated systems used to measure sail shapes are all feeding processors with data which is used in highly developed calculations and results in valuable numbers being displayed on clear displays.

One of the most significant areas of development by nke is in wind measurement. The name of the game is to be able to display accurate true wind direction and speed. In other words, to consider all influences from the boat’s motion and the waves in processing raw wind data.

Through their work the Research and Development team at nke has achieved a new level of accuracy by designing the high frequency wind processor. It features an algorithm that works out the noise in the wind data and applies corrections to the raw data coming in from the wind sensor, the speed sensor and the boat motion sensor.

What’s more nke is pleased to announce that the result of their efforts is available off the shelf! The wind data which is displayed is now corrected at high frequency. The high rate of data and data correction is an essential requirement for projects competing in events such as the America’s Cup where the results in terms of real time and accurate information are fundamental to achieve the best performance possible.
